About

Hi! My name is Andy Walser. I'm a nineteen-year-old college student studying for an Associates of Arts at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. I was homeschooled through high school, graduating in 2016. I've been playing Magic: The Gathering since the release of Eldritch Moon and started seriously watching anime back in 2015.

Movies, Magic, and Anime is the name of both this blog and the corresponding YouTube channel. On my YouTube channel I will be posting videos of Magic: The Gathering gameplay as well as video essays on a variety of topics to do with movies and anime. My videos will also be linked here on the blog. As for the content on this blog, I will be posting some articles that I wouldn't make into videos, such as my article on how broken the energy mechanic is in Standard as well as more current movie and anime reviews. Below are a couple of things about me and my videos.

What formats/decks will I play?

I mostly play Modern and Standard, with a little bit of Pauper and some Commander sprinkled in. I tend to lean towards more controlling strategies, like Approach of the Second Sun or Hatebearer decks. I'm also a big fan of planeswalkers, so I tend to play with them quite a bit. I may throw in the occasional draft, but Limited isn't really my forte, so it won't show up more often than special draft sets like Iconic Masters. I'll play a mix of high-tier decks like Modern Burn and some of my own brews like Sultai Control n Standard.

What will the video essays be about?

I'll typical highlight an aspect of a movie/anime that is does really well, such as how the Thor movies created a villain as likable as Loki. I'll also make some videos that seek to highlight elements two seemingly different properties have in common, like my video on the similarities between Wonder Woman and Iron Fist. Finally, I'll also make videos that are about why you should watch certain shows.

What kind of shows do I watch?

I'm going to put anime and movies together here because they have something in common: I'll watch basically anything. I don't watch horror movies, but that's about it. While sci-fi and fantasy are my favorite genres, I'll watch just about anything that can catch my attention and I think will be interesting, plus most anything with superheroes in it.
